Mijoung Kim
Mijoung Kim is a Korean artist who was an interior and floral designer for 15 years in South Korea. She studied at Kaywon University of Art and Design, South Korea, McQueens Flower School, London, United Kingdom, and is a certified Industrial Engineering Colorist in South Korea. Mijoung has been honing her skills in illustration and design for the past years at the University of Arizona’s College of Fine Arts. Mijoung blends her painting skills with her design experience. Mijoung expresses emotion as a visual language, using diverse color and expressive lexicons to connect and communicate. Her work has been shown at The University of Arizona Museum of Art, the Banyantree Hotel Resort, and the Lotte Department Store, Seoul, South Korea.
I consider the limitations of spoken language. The tools which spoken language provides have their limits and some experiences and emotions go beyond words. Creative art is more flexible than spoken language and it reflects my experience more freely. Abstract symbols express my stories, experiences, sentiments, and principles with an intuitive language that I create. The symbols act as surrogates for concepts and deep emotions experienced during times of struggle.
